The Flash Activities Board has kept students entertained through the first month of the semester with numerous activities, and they show no plans of slowing down in February.

They started the semester with “Disney Trivia” on Jan. 16 and ended the first week back to campus with “WinterBlast” at the student center. Throughout the second and third weeks, FAB held five events.
“We definitely are pushing out these events, trying to make sure students have something to do on campus,” said Kyiel Turner, a junior criminology and justice studies student and FAB’s director of special events. “I really like that we are definitely focused on the students and making sure they’re having a good time while they’re here.”
Turner organized the “Snowy Scenes” event held on Jan. 27 which let students create their own miniature snow globes. Attendees were automatically entered into a raffle for a winter bundle and others were entered into an additional raffle by sending in a photo for their snow globe to FAB. Students without a photo were able to get a maximum of three miniature figurines to put in theirs.
“I think it’s more of a cozy event. A nice little time you can come with your friends and make little snow globes.”
Layke Moore, a freshman fashion merchandising major, came to “Snowy Scenes” with friends.
“We come to all the FAB KSU events,” Moore said. “I love the atmosphere, I love the music and it’s not crowded. Everyone’s so sweet.”

During the same week, students were also able to attend “Sips and Seals” on Jan. 29, which gave students the opportunity to have boba tea and cookies. Board games and coloring pages were also provided as entertainment. There were two raffles, one including a large seal plush that served as the mascot.
Elizabeth Pomarico, a junior in applied mathematics, had been working on the event since last November with other event staff members.
“We like to do alliterative names, and for some reason, someone thought of that big seal plush that we have,” Pomarico said. “So, we decided on ‘Sips and Seals.’ It’s January, so we’re all trying to get the events that we were planning over break in, and kind of get a kick-off going.”
FAB has also introduced a new position for the spring semester, titled “FAB-Fluencers.”
“They go around to our events and they can kind of just record them and show everybody what they did at the event,” Turner said. “They just get to experience the event, record it and we’ll post it.”
The videos, which highlight different FAB events, are set to be posted on FAB’s Instagram in the future. The first event FAB-Fluencers attended was “WinterBlast.”
There are three events scheduled for the first week of February, with the fourth being FAB’s Red Dress Gala on Feb. 8 in the KSC Ballroom.
“I think FAB is my favorite group on campus for sure,” Moore said. “Compared to other colleges, you know, other colleges don’t take their time to keep the students engaged. I really like the variety of events that they have, because it’s not only bingo, it’s not only crafts, it’s multiple things.”
Pomarico and Turner expressed their hope to continue to reach out to different demographics and create friendly and relaxed events for all students.
“We’re trying to reach out to so many demographics of students, and I really think that we’re starting to kind of venture out that way and bring in everybody,” Turner said. “I feel pretty confident about the rest of the semester. I’m really excited.”
