Nader Taha, a senior lecturer of mathematics, sent The Kent Stater a written statement after the university accused him of making antisemitic statements.
In the statement, he said the organization that posted the video, the Middle East Research Institute (MEMRI), was founded by a former Israeli intelligence officer and is known for targeting those critical of Israel.
“Their selective editing ignores the overarching message of peace and understanding that permeates my teachings for decades, both in the mosque and in the university classroom,” Taha wrote.
Taha’s statement claimed the video was a “blatant attempt to manipulate public opinion and silence voices that advocate for justice and human rights.”
He stated that his comments were taken out of a Quranic context, and his sermon “focused on the prophet Yusuf” and “addressed the interpretation of the King’s dream in the Quranic narrative.”
“I categorically reject MEMRI’s misrepresentation of my words and reaffirm my unwavering commitment to interfaith harmony and peaceful coexistence,” he said.
In a statement to The Kent Stater, Steven Stalinsky, executive director of MEMRI, denied Taha’s claims that the organization edited the sermon.
“Should there be any ambiguity on what Taha stated, anyone can see for themselves: The full sermon that the Islamic Society of Akron and Kent posted on their social media remains online,” Stalinsky said.
Stalinsky went on to ask Kent State officials “is this who should be teaching their students?”
Kent State released a statement regarding the situation on Jan. 2.
UPDATE: This story was updated with comments from Steven Stalinsky, executive director of MEMRI.

The University , in their condemnation statement , clearly referred to the Message shared in the circulated heavily edited cut and paste 2 minutes video by MemeriTv. Such condemnation, was issued within 2 hours of receiving that video and without contacting me nor giving me the chance to defend my self or clear my name. Fortunately, I have the full video recording of those 2 sermon that expose the evil actions of such organisation.
Frauds and falsehoods can never win.
