Kent State will cancel in-person classes before noon on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
The announcement comes after students expressed frustration when the university did not close on Tuesday due to cold temperatures. Nearby universities, such as the University of Akron, moved classes online, and Youngstown State canceled classes.
The Flash ALERT stated, “All campuses except [College of Podiatric Medicine]- NO in-person classes before noon on Jan. 22. Classes may continue online; check [with] instructor.”

What a bunch of babies! I attended the main campus from 74 – 77 and the school closed ONCE. The reason? The buses couldn’t make it up Hilltop Drive. I had no trouble driving my Pinto up Hilltop, parked next to president’s spot in front of Kent Hall, watch the movie Patton in Kent Hall, and then drove back thru downtown to my flat on West Main at the flashing yellows. And got stuck in a pothole in the parking lot.
