Extremely low temperatures will make for a chilly week at Kent State.
The National Weather Service issued a cold weather advisory for Portage County and the surrounding area effective until Wednesday morning.
Campus will see wind chills as low as -24 degrees Fahrenheit, with Tuesday night to Wednesday morning bringing the coldest temperatures.
To prepare for the weather, the National Weather Service suggests dressing in layers, keeping pets indoors and wrapping or draining water pipes to avoid freezing.
Kent City School District has closed through Wednesday in preparation for the weather as well as Akron City School District. The University of Akron moved classes to online ahead of time for Tuesday, too.
Kent State has not canceled classes. In an email to students on Monday, the university warned of “exceptionally cold temperatures” and said it would make free hot chocolate, tea and coffee available on campus “to make the day a bit cozier.”
