Shannon Brown, the president of Undergraduate Student Government, resigned from the position Wednesday, according to a letter sent to USG members and obtained by The Kent Stater.
Brown’s resignation is effective immediately. Vice President Jessie Starkey will assume the office of president, according to the memo.
“Thank you for granting me the opportunity to serve in this position for the last eight months as your Student Body President,” Brown said in the letter. “I look forward to continuing out the rest of my undergraduate degree with graduation in May.”
Brown did not offer a reason for her resignation.

Immediately after Brown’s resignation, Director of Governmental Affairs Zachary Graves swore Starkey in as president.
Video obtained by The Kent Stater shows Starkey raising her right hand and accepting the oath of office. The video was provided by a former USG member on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive matters.
USG bylaws stipulate that should the president resign, they must provide a written resignation to USG at the following public meeting. Section 59 of Article VII lays out further procedure that all vacancies should be publicized through media and applications for the position made available in the Kent Student Center and USG office, along with a public notice of a deadline.
It is unclear if this procedure applies to the office of the president or just the general assembly.
This is a developing story.
