McGinty signs letter of intent with Kent State women’s golf

There’s a new golfer who signed her National Letter of Intent with the Kent State women’s golf team.

Her name is Caley McGinty.

Coach Greg Robertson described McGinty’s signing as exciting.

“We’re excited,” Robertson said. “She’s a top player in England and has some international experience. She’s ranked 636th in the world and has a lot of top finishes in Europe.”

Robertson goes to list some of McGinty’s accomplishments thus far. McGinty finished 12th in the English Women’s Amateur Championship, 9th in the English Girls’ Amateur, 5th in the Irish Women’s Stroke Play Championship and 10th in the Welsh Ladies’ Open Stroke Play Championship.

Robertson goes on to explain why McGinty is a good fit for the program.

“She has a very solid swing with the competition results,” Robertson said. “From talking with her, she has a lot of drive, and she is very serious about her golf and her future of playing golf.”

Robertson hopes McGinty will make an immediate impact but is cautious.

“As a freshman, you never know how well they’ll adjust and react,” Robertson explained. “As a coach, you hope that impact is immediate. She has the potential to make an impact, but she’s going to have to come in and earn it like everyone else. If she has a solid summer of competition, she could come in with confidence. I think she has high potential if she works hard.”
