When walking into Midnight Fairy Jewelry, the assortment of gold mirrors, comfortable furniture and ethereal jewelry and accessories may catch customers’ eyes.
Tasha Kardos, owner of Midnight Fairy Jewelry, said the store was designed to invite customers in with its home-like environment.
“[The store is] cute, really vibey,” Kardos said. “There’s fun mirrors to take pictures in. I have a chair for people to yap with me in, it’s a total vibe in here.”
After working at Hippie Fox Rocks, Kardos said she began to talk to the property manager of Acorn Alley about opening a storefront.
“I think it was the last week of May, I texted the property manager and I asked if the space was available,” she said. “Within a month, I opened, it was very stressful and I did it with no money.”
Although opening a store within a month was a challenge, Kardos said the short amount of time helped motivate her.
“I am autistic, I have ADHD and I work really well under pressure because I procrastinate really badly,” she said. “Having a shorter amount of time was very pushy … it was like crunch time.”
A majority of the decorations in the store were thrifted or purchased on sale, she said.
Before the store’s opening, Kardos said she attended flea markets throughout Kent and hosted spiritual fairs to sell her hand-made jewelry.
Kardos said she hopes to continue hosting spiritual fairs and other events as they allow for other creators to gain exposure.
“I like to provide a space for creators, spiritual businesses and other crafters to get their money and share their products and services,” she said.
With the opening of the store, she said Midnight Fairy Jewelry has expanded to sell new items like herbs for spell work, simmer pots, all-natural air fresheners and intention candles.
“[Simmer pots] also have intentions with them depending on the herbs and the different fruits used,” she said. “There are abundance ones that can help bring money, protection ones that can protect and blessing simmer pots that can bless your house.”
From the hand-soldered crystal star earrings to the layered ethereal chokers, all jewelry sold receives intentions set by Kardos, she said.
“I try to set intentions with all of the jewelry I sell to bless the person who buys it and wears it,” Kardos said.
The ethereal chokers sold are unique as Kardos said they are “pendant dependent,” meaning the style depends on what crystals are available for her use.
Kardos said she is excited for customers to see the do-it-yourself intention jars, which are jars customers can buy and fill with different items to set intentions to, and the crystal earrings.
“I feel like people just love [the crystal star earrings], so when they find them, they get super excited about them,” she said. “They’re really cool, unique earrings because no crystal is the same.”
Customers can be on the lookout for the Halloween merchandise drop and new themed ethereal chokers and necklaces, Kardos said.
“Halloween is the time I’m most excited about it because it’s going to go crazy over here,” she said. “Get ready, and save your money.”
