When his security team told the waiting group of ecstatic fans he would be out in a moment, an otherwise quiet hall on the third floor of the Student Center erupted in excitement.
Comedian, TV host and radio personality Steve Harvey didn’t have to say much to make his presence known Friday afternoon.
He was at the Student Center for a quick luncheon, then was on his way to speak to members of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. chapter.
“It started 50 years ago, Psi Gamma (chapter) in 1969. I wasn’t here then,” Harvey jokes, “but I pledged at this university.”
The gathered crowd of approximately 30 students snapped photos in the background.
“I want to bring about awareness on this campus, and to see what I can do on a national platform,” Harvey said.
In regard to what he wants to see happen in Kent State, Harvey is clear.
“To make Kent State famous. Maybe help some young people get some scholarships,” Harvey said. “It’s all about giving back.”
