With 26 seconds left in the Wagon Wheel game, Kent State’s football team allowed its third touchdown of the fourth quarter, losing to Akron 31-27.
The Zips snapped their five-game losing streak to Kent State, capturing the Wagon Wheel for the first time since 2018.
KSU fell to 1-8 on the season, and Akron improved to 2-7. The game marked the Flashes’ six-straight loss.
The Flashes are the only team in the Mid-American Conference without an in-conference win this season.
Sophomore quarterback Tommy Ulatowski made his first start of the season and threw for 229 yards on 15-23 passing and added three touchdowns.
Redshirt freshman wide receiver Chrishon McCray had a career day, catching six passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns.
The Kent State defense allowed 95 rushing yards on 29 attempts while tallying 129 of its own on 34 attempts.
Akron’s redshirt senior quarterback, Jeff Undercuffler, Jr., completed 23 of his 39 passes for 298 yards and two touchdowns.
Undercuffler, Jr. ran in the five-yard game-winning touchdown.
Kent State’s next game will be at home against Bowling Green at 7 p.m. Nov. 8.
