Located in the Downtown Gallery, the Kent State School of Art now welcomes guests to its new exhibition titled “Aggregate,” a combined art exhibition featuring graduate and undergraduate student works from all around Ohio.
The show, which opened with a reception on Oct. 13, is free to the public and will run until Dec. 9.
“The idea of the show came about through my student staff wanting to do something based on a statewide ‘call,’” said Anderson Turner, Director of Exhibitions and Collections for the School of Art.
The exhibition features multiple mediums including paintings, sculptures, quilts and photography.
The application process for “Aggregate” was fully online and drew in 315 studio art students from 15 different Ohio schools, with 33 pieces being selected for display. Turner led a jury along with his student staff to decide which applicants’ work would appear in the show.
“[We] went through and picked the ones that we responded to the best,” Turner said.
Though the exhibit only recently opened its doors, Turner spoke on the overwhelming success “Aggregate” has already received, and his hopes for future collaborations.
“It was really successful, and I think because of the success of that we’re probably going to expand [the application] to [other] states like Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky and Pennsylvania for next year.”
“Aggregate” is open Monday through Saturday until Dec. 9 in the Downtown Gallery at 130 E. Main St. in Kent.
