Kent Parks and Recreation is hosting its 28th annual Art in the Park in-person event this weekend after having a virtual celebration last year. Attendees can partake in art demonstrations, eat various food, listen to live music and purchase handmade creations.

With her first year directing, Angela Manley is expecting a good turn out, she said.

“I think people missed out on it last year and are excited to attend in-person and so far, our feedback from advertising and our posts on social media indicate it,” Manley said. 

The event will feature about 80 artists with a range of for sale creations, such as ceramics, photography and paintings. Returning vendors and new sellers have a spot at the event. 

Many artists have found a place to connect with other creatives and “this community embraces the arts,” Manley said.  

The vendors will also take part in a jury show over the weekend based on four categories: professionalism, originality, artistic ability and booth presentation. Prizes include best of show as well as first, second and third place. Honorable mention and best display winners will be awarded a ribbon.

While meeting the artists at this long-standing gathering, Kent residents can continue to explore a new year of artistic creations. 

“The longevity of it has become such a tradition in the community and knowing that it has remained very strong over the past three decades speaks volumes to the type of program and event that this is,” Manley said. 

Art in the Park will take place Sept. 11 from 10 a.m. to  6 p.m. and Sept. 12 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Fred Fuller Park in Kent, Ohio. The event is free to attend and also offers free parking. Food and handmade items are available for purchase.
