Kent State launches investigation into stopped field hockey game
Kent State President Todd Diacon announced the university will launch an investigation into the handling of a double-overtime field hockey game stopped for the football pregame fireworks Sept. 7.
The investigation will be led by the Office of Compliance, Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action.
Kent State received considerable national backlash regarding its decision to end the game between Temple University and the University of Maine following double overtime. The game was then classified as an exhibition match, not affecting either teams’ record or standing.
In an emailed statement, Diacon said, “Prioritizing a swift investigation and implementing its recommendations allows us to recalibrate our actions to once again reflect our highest ideals.”
